Fragments from my Autobiography

On 3 December 2024, I was awarded a Birkbeck College Fellowship. I used the opportunity of the ceremony to reflect on my own personal history and how I became a writer.

I am introduced by the incredible historian Professor Julia Laite, author of The Disappearance of Lydia Harvey (Profile, 2021), which won the Crime Writer's Association Gold Dagger for Non-Fiction, and the Bert Roth award for Labour History.

Here is a clip. I start my 'reflections' at 09.41: https://youtu.be/vQqj_F_QTTI
